High cholesterol: Foods like citrus peel can lower bad cholesterol by 40%

PMFs are found in a variety of citrus fruits, with the most common form of antioxidants found in the peels of tangerines and oranges.

The study found that the compounds proved promising as an effective and natural alternative to lowering LDL cholesterol.

Published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the results also showed that PMFs shared marked similarities with a wide range of other plant compounds found in citrus fruits, which are associated with many health benefits.

Separate research has shown a positive relationship between similar flavonoids, such as hesperidin found in oranges and grapefruit naringin.
