Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard in cash worth $ 68.7 billion

Microsoft Corp. agreed to acquire Activision Blizzard Inc. in a cash trade worth $ 68.7 billion, and used its by far largest acquisition to grab a heavyweight in a video game that has been hit by allegations of workplace dishonesty.

The deal, if implemented, will greatly expand Microsoft's already significant video game operations and add a stable of popular game franchises, including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Candy Crush, to Microsoft's Xbox console business and its own games like Minecraft and Doom. Microsoft said the deal would make it the world's third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind China's Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Japan's Sony Group Corp.
