The Hills restart has been canceled after two seasons because the original stars had ‘major issues’ with it

The Hills: New Beginnings has reportedly been canceled after only two seasons on MTV.

Sources close to the production told TMZ on Tuesday that the third season will be its last on the cable channel and that the cast was informed of the cancellation 'by last week'.

It was alleged that the original stars from The Hills had 'major problems' with the reboot, including the producers' recent exploration to bring in' younger cast members'.

The outlet's sources claimed that the producers believed that the involvement of 'younger' members would 'diversify' the cast, but the idea was shot down by the original stars.

It was also claimed that 'some' of the original stars believed that The Hills: New Beginnings 'was not the program MTV promised them' and that it sometimes felt 'forced with fake stories and confession stories'.

TMZ's sources said that 'some' of them were so annoyed with the way the show went that they 'refused to continue playing with, which eventually led to the cancellation.'

The original stars' frustration with the production caused a 'blind spot between some stars and the network.'

Aside from alleged friction, it was also claimed that COVID-19 was to blame for the show's premature cancellation, as the strict protocols made it increasingly difficult to record and coordinate schedules for a large ensemble crew.

Fans were ecstatic when they learned in 2019 that The Hills was restarted, nine years after the 2010 finale.

TMZ's sources noted that although the production did not mimic the success of the original series, the producers are still 'proud of what they were able to do in the midst of the worldwide pandemic.'

Another production source claimed that the audience has not seen the last of The Hills, as there is a reported reinterpretation of the show in the works with the aim of 'unlocking'[ing] and maximize[ing]'audience''s love of mid-2000s reality drama.
