Gayle King signs new deal with CBS and rejects CNN

Gayle King signed a new contract with CBS, she said Friday, stopping speculation about whether she would leave her place on the network's morning show.

"CBS Mornings" co-host has agreed to a new contract that will keep her on the Tiffany Network for the foreseeable future, she told listeners on her SiriusXM radio program on Friday.

"I officially signed on the dotted line," King said. "So I want to be with CBS a little longer."

King, who earns an annual salary of $ 13 million a year, attracted interest from potential suitors, including CNN CEO Jeff Zucker. Her current contract was due to expire in April. It is not clear what she will do under the new deal.

Zucker approached King's representatives to gauge her interest in taking over at. 21.00, which has been vacant since the firing of Chris Cuomo last month, The Post confirmed.

Zucker was hoping King would help CNN settle the cable news war, which is dominated by Fox News, especially in prime time, according to a report.

Cuomo was started up after it was discovered that he was helping his brother, then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, with strategies to counter allegations that he sexually harassed a former aide.

Instead, King stays at his current job as host of CBS's morning show with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.

King, 67, told her listeners on satellite radio that she was "courted" by other media outlets, but in the end she decided to stay put.

"There is a lot of speculation about 'what will Gayle do, where will she go, will she be sued?'" King said. "The answer was yes."

Chris Cuomo was fired by CNN as hosting Cuomo Prime Time after it was learned he was advising his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on how he could refute allegations of sexual harassment.

After a stint as a correspondent for ABC's "Good Morning America," King joined CBS News in 2012 when she was named co-host of "CBS This Morning" alongside Norah O'Donnell and Charlie Rose.

She has scored several prominent interviews, including an exclusive meeting with singer R. Kelly, after he was arrested and charged with various sex crimes in 2019.

King was praised for his balance during the session, in which Kelly exploded in rage while denying allegations of sexual assault.

In addition to his morning assignments in the morning, King will also host "CBS Reports," a new series that will be available on the network's CBS News Streaming service.

"CBS Mornings" lags behind its competitors. It has an average of 2.6 million daily viewers - after NBC's "Today" and second place "Good Morning America".
