West Side Story's Kyle Allen to star as He-Man in Masters Of The Universe movie ... nearly three years after Noah Centineo announced he would play role

Kyle Allen will trade in his dancing shoes for a pair of knee-high boots in an upcoming project.

The actor, 27, starred in the most recent West Side Story adaptation, and he will soon play the classic character He-Man in a live-action Masters Of The Universe movie.

Mattel and Netflix announced the news on Friday.

According to People, Masters Of The Universe will follow an orphan who discovers that he is royalty in a 'faraway land' and must 'quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force.'

The film is based on the 1980s Mattel action figures which took the nation by storm at the time.

It led to a number a cartoon titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and a live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man which came out in 1987.

While Allen now holds the lead role in the upcoming blockbuster film, it was once attributed to Netflix star Noah Centineo.

The To All the Boys I've Loved Before star announced he would play the lead role in the film when it was a Sony and Mattel collaboration.

He said he was 'very excited' to play the role during an interview on The Tonight Show in April 2019 and called it 'a really big responsibility' in an MTV News interview several months later.

The film is set to begin production this summer. Aaron and Adam Nee, who directed The Lost City, will also direct this movie.

Netflix has two other series related to He-Man already on their platform titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe's second season is set for release on March 3.

Masters of the Universe isn't the only Kyle Allen project coming out soon. Allen will also appear in The In Between, a film about a young woman who believes her deceased boyfriend is trying to connect with her from the afterlife.

Allen will star opposite The Kissing Booth star Joey King in the film based on the Marc Klein book of the same name. It is set for release next month.
